The promises of glycoproteomics

Frédérique Lisacek

Glycoproteomics is a budding field in which software development as well as quality benchmark datasets are needed. Tackling these issues brings in a broad diversity of challenges most of which arising from the too few bridges between glycomics and proteomics. Lessons learnt from proteomics can speed up the integration of standards as well as moving away from lab dependent workflows but further specific issues regarding for example the combinatorics underlying glycan structures and the currently limited option of database search require dedicated efforts. This presentation will focus on some open problems of glycan and glycoprotein identification and the bioinformatics resources that can support this endeavour.
